SOMONI TAJIKISTAN

 

The official currency of Tajikistan is the Tajikistani Somoni, denoted by the symbol "TJS" and represented by the abbreviation "СМ" in Cyrillic script. Named after the 9th-century ruler Ismail Samani, the Somoni was introduced in 2000, replacing the Tajikistani Ruble that had been in circulation since the Soviet era. This change aimed to establish a stronger sense of national identity and economic stability.

The Somoni is subdivided into 100 diram and is issued by the National Bank of Tajikistan. Its design reflects the cultural heritage and natural beauty of Tajikistan, featuring landmarks, flora, and fauna on its banknotes.
